Hot Springs

The area is also known for its thermal baths, the waters of the Bullicame hot springs are mentioned in Dante’s “Inferno”. Its steamy, sulphureous water is good for the skin, for respiratory ailments, rheumatism and problems with the circulatory and lymphatic systems. About 30 minutes away from the casale by car, there are a variety of options for all budgets. The Terme dei Papi with its immense outdoor thermal pool is quite an experience and is open in the evening on weekends with different formulas (some including a happy hour or a movie shown on a big screen). For the enterprising and the not too fussy, there is even an option which is free (but without any amenities like changing rooms) – not for the faint of heart.

To the north in Tuscany is San Casciano dei Bagni (about 1 hour from the casale) is nice for a day trip and has several spas to choose from. Spas are to be found heading west into Tuscany at Sorano and Saturnia, which also boasts a free, thermal waterfall for the adventurous.
